NEW WEEKLY TRADITIONAL LATIN
MASS FOR HARTFORD
Archbishop extends indult to weekly
basis at new location.
On December 7th, 2005 the Most Rev. Archbishop
Henry Mansell approved the celebration of the Traditional Latin
Mass on all Sundays and Holy Days at The Church of Saint Mary
in New Britain, Connecticut. The archbishop was approached by
the group of lay people who had been worshiping on a once-a-month
basis at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Hartford for the past
20 years and were seeking a location for a more frequent Mass
for their growing community.
The Rev. Jeffrey Walsh, pastor of St.
Mary Church on Main Street in downtown New Britain opened his
church for the use of the Hartford traditional community. Archbishop
Mansell wrote that he deeply appreciated Fr. Walsh's kind invitation.
The Traditional Latin Mass, sometimes
called the Tridentine Mass, is the manner Mass was celebrated
for 1,500 years until the institution of the new Mass in 1970.
The Church continues to allow priests to offer the Traditional
Mass, as codified in 1962, to those faithful who request it.
Latin Masses are scheduled to begin at
St. Mary's on March 5th with a High Mass celebrated by Rev. Jeffrey
L'Arche, M.S. at 4 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
